The Iyengar Approach to Hatha Yoga
The Iyengar method of yoga is a process of exploration and experimentation with the 8 Limbs described in the Patanjali Sutras. The focus beginning with alignment of the physical body can lead students from an awareness of their body in the poses to an awareness of their body, breath,
and being as one with themselves and the greater world. Asanas are individualized for the needs of different bodies and stages of life. Various props are used to maximize opening and awareness throughout the body, and to stimulate blood flow to the organs. The precision of practice brings a focus to the mental process to result in peace of mind. It is a practice of meditation in action.
